Dual path – soluzioni a canale ridondante di Trikdis

In 2019, Trikdis introduced the WiFi W485 and Ethernet E485 modules — not standalone communicators, but parallel redundant communication channel add-ons designed to work alongside an existing communicator.
The concept behind dual path — redundant channel communication — is that alongside a GSM or radio communicator, you can add a low-cost module that uses wired internet at virtually no additional data cost. This allows you to:
- replace the expensive mobile data connection under normal conditions,
- increase communication reliability by using a second channel,
- achieve faster communication (compared to a 2G connection).
These modules are primarily compatible with the Trikdis G16 and G16T GSM communicators, the SP231 alarm control panel with integrated GSM communicator, and the T16 radio communicator.
The example below shows the most common setup, where an already installed Trikdis GSM communicator is assumed alongside the alarm control panel. An Ethernet cable is typically not available in the alarm panel enclosure*, so the WiFi W485 module is placed inside (which requires adequate WiFi signal strength). The GSM communicator and the WiFi module communicate via RS485, which requires no special configuration.
* In new construction or renovation projects, it is worth running a cable even if it will not be used immediately.
The W485 or E485 transmits messages as the primary channel as long as communication is maintained. In the event of a network or power failure, the wired internet service is lost and communication automatically switches back to the original GSM or radio communicator.
